CMS stands for Content Management System. In easy terms ... it's a tool implemented into your website which gives you the ability to update your text, photos, files, etc., without the help of a web designer. In slightly more technical terms ... it is a database application ran on your server which makes your life easier.
Some things you can do with CMS:
1.) Add new pages and delete existing pages without harming the design.
2.) Easily add new images, videos, and files to your website.
3.) Update and manage text and content with an interface as easy to manage as Word.
4.) Create links without knowledge of HTML.
5.) Create and manage HTML tables.
6.) Manage drop-down menus in your navigation.
7.) Manage add-on's to your site, such as: forums, polls, shopping carts, etc.
8.) Create user accounts for other people to update and control what they are/are not allowed to update.
9.) Update your website from any computer, anywhere.
10.) Pay a one-time fee to set it up and do not pay any web maintenance fees for updates unless you need to change the design of your site.
Is CMS necessary?
CMS is not for everyone. Some people only update their websites a few times a year. If this is the case for you, CMS may not be worth the initial fee.
